How does the component?

Roxithromycin is used to treat bacterial infections.

Millions of different bacteria, viruses or fungi in our bodies every day trying to penetrate. They live in the air, water, food or other people and animals. Not all harm to humans - some we even need. Useful organisms form our skin flora, a natural shield against pathogens. Others turn help us with digestion.

In the normal immune system destroys the harmful intruders before they can install and multiply. Is the body's defenses weakened by stress, cold or disease, the pathogen can multiply and spread out undisturbed. There is an infection. Especially in people with weak immune systems, such as children, the chronically ill and people over 60 years, an infection can damage organs and the brain and in the worst case, even life-threatening.

Against any agent type has its own medicine. Act against bacteria, antibiotics, antivirals against viruses and fungi against antifungal agents. Roxithromycin is active against bacteria. It is an antibiotic in the macrolide group. This group of antibiotics in the bacteria blocked the formation of essential proteins and thus stops their propagation.


Before treatment with antibiotics should first be determined whether the infection is really caused by bacteria, and which exact type of bacteria is the polluter. Macrolides are mainly used when antibiotics are selected from the group of penicillins and cephalosporins are not suitable or atypical pathogens cause the infection.

    * Antibiotics have on the whole, be applied by the doctor prescribed period even if you already feel healthy and fit again. If the medication discontinued prematurely, residual germs can survive, leading to a renewed outbreak of the disease. Concomitant use of vasoconstrictive drugs such as ergotamine or dihydroergotamine for migraine leads to circulatory problems. These drugs may therefore not be combined.

Roxithromycin should not be used simultaneously with substances that can cause cardiac arrhythmia, such as the anti-allergic agent terfenadine.

Heart medication from the group of cardiac glycosides and the drug disopyramide may increase the intensity dangerous in their effect. In patients taking such drugs, the ECG must be monitored.

Antibiotics can affect the intestinal flora and thus the metabolism of estrogens from the pill. Maybe the pregnancy protection is compromised. Although such interactions are not yet known, although it is advisable to apply additional protection measures, especially when the estrogen content is the pill less than 50 mg.
